Sette Restaurant Description:
Sette brings yet another culinary delight to the Park Slope area and confirms that Seventh Avenue is no longer in the gastronomic shadow of trendy Fifth Avenue. Contemporary fixtures and slate tile give the dining room an industrial feel that is softened by a wood ceiling, butcher-block tables and a wrought-iron entrance to the outdoor garden seating. Conversation can be difficult amid the over-loud sound system but the fresh scents of bread and herbs from the wood-burning oven behind the open kitchen waft over to make up for lost banter. Wire-mesh baskets of focaccia twists, wrapped in Italian newspapers, help stave off any hunger pains while the Venti per Venti wine menu (20 regional Italian wines at $20) will quench your thirst by the bottle or the quartino. Southern Italian specialties feature seasonal ingredients; not to be missed on the appetizer menu are the pizzette or the fresh mozzarella with a portobello mushroom. Entrées include spicy tagliatelle with eggplant and ricotta, and fennel-crusted tuna with cerignola olives and preserved lemon. Portions are generous so save room for the desserts, especially the Marsala custard with fresh berries and cream.
