Zlata Praha Description:
Zlata Praha was founded and created by chef/owner George Suchanek. This authentic Czech-Slovak experience has a world wide reputation for serving the ultimate variety of homemade dishes, prepared the old fashioned way. The restaurants interior is awash in ethnic color, and there is a small patio in the rear. The full bar features a large assortment of Czech, Slovak and German beer. The restaurant sponsors local concerts by Czech musicians and also serves as a small Bed & Breakfast! Located under the 30th Avenue N/W Subway stop. No Deliveries.
Richly atmospheric and casual, Zlata Praha (Golden Prague) is the only Czech and Slovak restaurant in New York. Located under an elevated railway in Astoria, it is a beacon for mittel-Europe food fans. The crowded bar is plastered with pictures of Czech entertainers, many of whom appear from time to time. The open, 60-seat dining room is festooned with pictures and murals of Prague. Food is the genuine article---beef broth with liver dumplings, headcheese to be drizzled with white vinegar and eaten with onions, pork schnitzel in potato-cheese crust, and very lean roast duck. Starters include cabbage leaves stuffed with beef, pork and rice in tomato sauce; tender pirogi with sour cream; and homemade spicy potato pancakes served with apple sauce. A meal is not complete, of course, unless it is washed down with a terrific Czech beer.
