The Grocery Description:
The Grocery is one of the more ambitious---and grown-up---establishments on Smith Street, Brooklyn's restaurant row. As the name implies, the menu is market-driven, and chef-owners Sharon Pachter and Charles Kiely fashion well-composed plates from the day's best offerings. Roasted beets accent goat cheese ravioli with fried shallots and toasted pine nuts. Roasted chicken is served with a sweet potato biscuit, lemon poblano pan sauce, and escarole. Pastry chef Pachter's desserts, including a chocolate fig cake with coconut ice cream and passion fruit sorbet, are simply first-rate. Her house-made ice creams and sorbets are ultra-smooth. In winter, you'll feel cozy in the small, spare dining room. In summer, stretch out in the trellised back garden.
