If there is a recipe for restaurant success, Matthew Karp and wife Wendy Weinstein are following it. Owner-chef and marketing director respectively of Plates restaurant in Larchmont, the duo personify the culinary power couple in Westchester. Karp and Weinstein sell a palatable product, but perhaps just as intriguing is their concept. Part business savvy, part nostalgia, the plates de nome are the forty from around the globe that adorn various parts of the restaurant---some from as far away as Russia, others from their children's play kitchens. An American menu with the occasional diversion into the funky is highlighted by fresh staples: fish and meat. The New York-raised Crescent Farm local duck is tender and moist. The roasted salmon presents an exciting blend of East meets West flavors, prepared with a tandoori spice and served with risotto, purple eggplant, chick peas and red onion. Desserts dabble further in the avant garde with the giant Ring Ding, made daily, and two homemade cinnamon donuts accented by vanilla gelato.
