Designed to showcase local farmers and artisans, Flying Pig offers a dining experience unique to its mission. From the outside, this café is unassuming, but step inside, walk down the narrow hall, and you are transported to what could be a swank SoHo or Lower East Side eatery. Jazzy music or lively piano serves as a backdrop to happy hour conversations. The bar offers a selection of international wines and the house specialty---an organic strawberry-infused vodka. Dinner starters include a romaine wedge with blue cheese, and warm goat cheese drizzled with a honey-thyme vinaigrette. House-made potato gnocchi taste like Grandma's, and fried calamari is light and crisp, served with a lemony sauce. Mains run to a farm-raised trout or lamb stew for dinner, and a thick, pub-style burger accompanied by wedges of steak fries. Another star from the grill is the pork chop with rainbow chard and black-eyed peas. For dessert, stick to the fresh berries with cream, or have another drink at the bar.
