Sheep Station Description:
It's a homey pub/restaurant, sometimes a band will come and play there. Has a bunch of tables in the front and a larger space in the back with high ceilings. Wooden bar in the front, windows on the street, decor is rustic and dark.
Australian food, small menu but includes meat dishes and fish. Does not accept credit cards.
After Park Slope's once-dicey Fifth Avenue got the gentrification treatment, restaurateurs and bar owners set their sites on busy Fourth Avenue. And, as a result, the thoroughfare has undergone a culinary renaissance, not to mention an exponential rise in its hipster-quotient. Sheep Station, a spacious Australian pub, is a welcome option, with its pressed-tin walls, friendly atmosphere, and extensive wine and beer list. We can recommend everything on the menu, but the shearer's burger is king---a juicy patty capped, in Australian style, with beets, pineapple and a fried egg. There's also grilled whole fish (the selection varies), traditional minced meat pie, oysters, and lamb chops. For lighter fare, try the delicate baby rocket salad with beets, sheep's milk cheese, and Dijon vinaigrette. The comfortable back room showcases local art---and the occasional rugby or cricket match---and offers more seating, in case your party expands, or you decide to have one last pint before calling it a night.
