Blue Stores Description:
Zooming up Route 9 you could easily pass by Blue Stores Hotel & Restaurant, which was built as a private home in 1820, but has been restored. Co-owner Lenny Kilmer has filled this large space top-to-bottom with antiques lovingly collected over 15 years for an antique shop. That business closed and the antiques, ranging from specially woven Taghanic baskets to valuable Wallace Nutting photos, hang from ceiling to floor. Drop in for a tour, a drink and whatever luncheon or dinner special is offered, but don't miss the chocolate confusion layer cake, a combination of a chocolate cookie layer, a rich brownie, chocolate mousse and chocolate cake with fudge frosting that will send you into sugar shock. Lenny is a gracious host, who happily will show you every inch of space. He is also a knowledgeable historian of the area. P.S. Blue Stores was so named because many of the buildings in this tiny hamlet, long ago, were painted blue.
