Theater for the New City Description:
Miscellaneous:
In The Idiot, a stranger comes New York City and is thrust into the heart of a society more concerned with wealth, power and sexual conquest than with spiritual and religious ideals. He soon falls in love with two young women at the same time putting him at the center of a violent love triangle. Extortion, scandal and the murder of one of the women follows. He can not bear the pain, and falls apart, causing some to see him as an idiot. This story reveals a profound innocence, which people often mistake for sickness. The new production will be directed by Anatole Fourmantchouk, the founding artistic director of New York Art Theatre, with Set and Costume Design by Natalie Rudyuk.
Performances of The Idiot begin Tuesday, December 28, 1999, and will run through Sunday, January 23, 2000.
