Spitzer's Corner Description:
Anchored on a corner that's bustling with Lower East Side revelers, Spitzer's is one of the first gastropubs to open in New York with a strictly American culinary theme. After all, what could be more red, white and blue than pork-fat popcorn? With two long communal tables and bench-like seating around the main room's circumference, young LES gourmands snack on comfort food items like the hickory burger, served with crispy and grease-less fries, that is ho-hum but saved by the explosive bacon and caramelized onions. Pan-roasted chicken, tender and hearty, is set in a tasty miasma of mashed potatoes and pilsner jus. The thirty-eight beers on tap are all great selections, including the rich (and potent) St. Bernardus 12.
