Las Ramblas Description:
In Barcelona, Las Ramblas refers to the pedestrian street that unfortunately has become as famous for its pick-pocketing antics as for its beautiful bustle. But luckily for us, at this West Village tapas spot there's a lot of cheerful bustle and little robbery. In fact, the price/quality ratio seems to favor the diner. Let the young, charming owner-sommelier, Natalie, guide you through the long list of warm and cold tapas. The octopus, laid on a bed of Mediterranean greens and purple potatoes, is done just right and avoids the rubbery texture that's so common in squid dishes. Likewise, the Prince Edward Island mussels (soaking in a light tomato sauce) manage to be more savory than sticky. The lightly fried smelts, cooked in garlic and olive oil, might be the most (unfortunately) overlooked item on the menu while the York and Serrano ham croquettes are as good as they sound---crunchy on the outside and molten and gooey on the inside. There are 35 Spanish wines by the glass.
