Counter Description:
At Counter most of the herbs and specialty vegetables are grown on the restaurants roof top garden and are handpicked daily. Offers a variety of dishes from the small plates menu, such as the Caprese summer roll of Tomato, macadamia ˜goat cheese" and crushed basils, or the Stuffed morels with spinach, tofu ricotta and toasted pine nuts. For the main event try out the Autumn Crepe with field mushroom, stinging nettle, herb oils and fried sage . Round off the meal with one of the home made desserts including house made ice creams and sorbets, the Passion, and a Macaroon crusted tartlet with confetti crème and candied orange paired with an organic dessert wine is not to be missed.
Counter is a vegetarian restaurant but also an organic wine bar with over 140 organic wines, beers and sakes. The wine list focuses on artisanal and smaller wineries from all over the world. There are daily wine flights and special low priced bottles every Monday night. And now Counter is serving a list of classic cocktails made with organic and infused liquors.
The raw, organic fare at this Lower East Side vegetarian eatery will even enthrall those with more carnivorous appetites. Nosh on corn beignets with rémoulade sauce and the East Side burger, a blend of wild mushroom pâté, house-made seitan and fresh herbs served with pommes frites. Additionally, proprietor Deborah Gavito's selection of organic wines is specifically chosen to match Counter's unique menu.
