Burger Shoppe Description:
The patties at WSBS are done in a similar vein as those at the Pop Burger chainlet---Kevin O'Connell, the former executive chef of Pop Burger, is a co-owner here. Downstairs, you can order diner-style specials, including the aforementioned burgers, which start with a plain single and run the gamut from iterations with avocado, muenster and bacon (the Kahuna) to Swiss, mushrooms and onions (the Sub-Prime Meltdown). Or, if you're not in the mood for a burger you can get a pair of char-grilled Sabrett all-beef franks topped with cheese, house-made chili and onions for just six bucks. Upstairs, the menu and ambience is slightly more upscale; while you can still get a burger, there are also comfort food classics like chopped chicken livers and short rib pudding. It's also the place to sample the now-infamous $175 Richard Nouveau burger, made with Kobe beef, shaved black truffle and foie gras. Marketing gimmicks aside, the run-of-the-mill patties are the way to go here, pairing well with the buttermilk-batter-dipped onion rings and hand-cut fries. Old-fashioned desserts, including bananas Foster and malts, round out the menu.
