Silver skull lamps add cheeky ambience to what would otherwise be another trendy spot with dark leather banquettes and a gleaming white bar. Even in New York, few places can pull off a skeletal countenance with panache (and no police). Beyond the bar, a lounge-like room offers seating around a fireplace as well as wine bottles lining one wall. Über-chic playing-card pendant lights illuminate the space while diners nosh on tender bison hanger steak, topped with a basil pomme purée, charred red onions and cherry tomatoes. Of course, in New York, a garden terrace is a little slice of heaven, and luckily, the restaurant has one with an all-season retractable roof---and very modish Lucite chairs. Start with an appetizer of steamed clams in roasted garlic sauce with crispy crostini. A side of garlic fries is potent enough to become a dating hazard, and the accompanying mayo-pickle juice sauce is an acquired taste. Sweet pumpkin ravioli livens up a winter evening, especially when paired with a fruity glass of sangría or a bottle of Lambic Belgian raspberry beer. Polish off the evening by dunking childishly good rice crispy treats into a gooey concoction of chocolate, peanut butter and marshmallows.
