SD26 Description:
After two decades running San Domenico on Central Park South, founder Tony May (along with his charming daughter, Marisa May) moved the legendary Italian restaurant to Madison Square Park and rebranded it SD26. The space is vast and modern, but the dining room is very lively with its exhibition kitchen and interactive salumeria station where guests can select charcuterie. For lunchtime diners, Tony and a friend of his from Milan dreamed up "Il Quadrifoglio," a four-item meal that's healthy and also a good value. The offerings change daily but might include chicken and asparagus ravioli, chicken breast with zucchini and arugula pesto, octopus salad and strawberry gelée and exotic fruit. Things heat up at dinner, when the kitchen turns out dishes such as a soft egg raviolo with truffled butter; halibut confit in olive oil, chickpea and clam ragù; and Fiorentina steak for two. The bar offers small plates and prime people-watching, but if you're looking for a more private evening, request the Wine Connoisseur's Room in the cellar downstairs. Sommelier Eric McCall will help you navigate the extensive electronic wine list, which is accessed from a hand-held computer.
