Cannery Seafood of the Pacific Description:
A living testament to the restaurant's bygone era as a real fish cannery, this landmark sprawls gracefully over Newport Harbor. The Cannery has gone through several evolutions in the past decades to become the low-key gourmet enclave it is today. For lunch, most like to leisurely nosh out of doors on the sunny patio, nibbling on satisfying fresh salads and light entrées. When the lights go down, however, the place lights up as a golden historic structure outside and a water palace inside, with the inventive lighting fixtures in the shapes of jelly fish, star fish and other fantastic sea creatures. Executive chef Felix Salcedo is behind the menu, which includes everything from New England classics to sushi to contemporary Euro-American cuisine. Some go upstairs to The Cannery's traditional sushi bar or, they lounge in a homey fire pit area or hang around the large wooden bar. The Cannery also has the longest dock of only a handful of harbor restaurants. So, electric putt-putts to million-dollar yachts can dock and dine or pick up some good food for a harbor-style floating feast.
