Chef-owner Adrienne Sussman---whose career has taken her from Commander's Palace in New Orleans to the Arizona Biltmore and The Waldorf=Astoria's Peacock Alley---literally calls her Litchfield County restaurant "home": her living quarters are on the second floor. Below, in a quiet yet elegant old manor that's ripe with country charm, diners do so figuratively---finding comfort in a seasonal menu of creative American cuisine rich in New Englandisms, with an emphasis on wild game, local produce and, of course, seafood. Grilled wild salmon served over arugula with herbed quinoa that's dotted with golden raisins and tomatoes and drizzled with lemon oil is a daringly multifaceted dish; whole-wheat angel hair pasta with steamed, spiced clams takes full advantage of one of the region's favorite adopted dishes, redolent of garlic, white wine, tomatoes and parsley (adding broccoli for good measure). The perfunctory dessert menu largely fails to keep pace, but one of the area's most extensive wine lists compensates.
