Ventura's Greenhouse Description:
This Jersey Shore spot, located in the shadow of Downbeach landmark Lucy the Elephant, boasts a spacious beach-view upstairs deck (open during the late spring through summer) that features a raw bar with clams on the half-shell, and peel-it-yourself shrimp. In addition, the downstairs deck and cozy café, which is in full-swing year-round, serves up decent pizza, the best of which is the white version with fresh steamed spinach, garlic and sliced tomatoes on a buttery crust. The Greenhouse also serves some of the island's best cheesesteaks, served on mammoth Italian rolls overflowing with grilled shaved beef with your choice of toppings. There's a selection of Italian dishes, such as the usual spaghetti and meatballs, and mussels in red or white sauce heavily spiked with garlic. Great summertime people-watching.

Review :
I must say of all the resturants in south jersy, Ventura's greenhouse cafe tops them all. I have only been there a few times since we moved down here, but the food and service is outstanding. Everything you order comes freshly made(unlike a lot of other resturants that premake there meals). I have been to both the outside deck during the day while spending my day down on the beach and inside the upstairs dining room. They have the most helpful and friendly staff, who seem to bend over backwards just to make your night perfect. It is a family run resturant and it shows in how well you are treated. The hostess/manager is the best around and treats you as if you were her family. I highly recommend to anyone to visit, especially in the winter months when they are slower. The food is a little pricey, but you get what you pay for. Not to mention the food is amazing and you are right on the beach. Its definitly a five star resturant.

This review applies to the upstairs dining room part of the restaurant (it has a casual downstairs bar area and outside deck area too). My family and I are locals who visit this restaurant at least once a week, all year long for the past 6 years- we are there in the winters when we are many times the only table in the place! We used to call this our favorite restaurant because we were treated like family by all of the staff for being so loyal-my parents had even gone to the Ventura's restaurant in Berlin, NJ (related to this one) for over 25 years! However, we will never set foot in this restaurant again after the way we were recently treated. We had made a special request ahead of time for a particular seafood item to be ordered with the other weekly seafood items when the chef placed his order for the weeks fresh fish as usual, and after a few phone calls to the friendly hostess/manager, it was accommodated, but with an attitude from the chef.
We have lots of other fine restaurants where the owners and staff treat us with the respect and kindness we deserve for being the locals that keep them in business long after the beachgoers have gone home after summer and the bleak winter sets in.
There are many other great restaurants (where both food and service are great) in a 15-minute radius that are much better than this place, just ask the locals. And by the way, the food and drink on the deck bar is overpriced, and the downstairs bar is a claustrophobic low-ceiling dive bar with the same overpriced food. The dining room was the only part of the restaurant worth going to, that is until now.
