The Tewksbury Inn, located in the heart of New Jersey's horse country, has been welcoming guests for a century or two, originally as a stagecoach stop, but now as an enchanting country inn. While the inn's manners come from another era, the food does not. Chef Chris Quintile's menu offers modern dishes prepared with a clear-eyed sensibility for international flavors. There are temptations such as lemon and parsley butter-crusted Alaskan halibut with bacon, onion and romaine ragù and English pea sauce, beautifully plated and highly aromatic. And an entrée of grilled lamb T-bones served with natural rosemary lamb jus with an accompanying salad niçoise is a good pairing. A carefully selected and extensive wine list does justice to the food. Service is informal and friendly, but sometimes a tad pokey.
