Park & Orchard Restaurant Description:
Cavernous and noisy, and sometimes a long wait for a table, but the food and wine are worth it. Extensive menu; large portions of healthful and tasty food. Top wine list. A short drive from the Meadowlands.
No classification exists for Park & Orchard. The menu offers everything from Chinese to Mexican, from Cajun to French, Italian and other cuisines that inspire the chef. The restaurant aggressively tailors dishes to meet dietary needs (salt-free, fat-free, etc.). Despite the restrictions, the fare is creative, and vegetarian dishes shine---there are boundless variations on vegetable stir-fries and casseroles. Comfort foods are a taste of home; especially notable is Ethel's Famous Pot Roast based on the owners' mother's recipe but made with Black Angus beef. It is served with mashed potatoes and gravy. Finish this meal with Mom's Rice Pudding. The restaurant is known for its extensive wine list---thick as a telephone book. Find in its vast pages a wine as grand as the 1990 Chambertin Domaine Rousseau for $1,200 but also the Mendocino County's Organic Vintners Pinot Noir for $26.
