Restaurant Nicholas Description:
Nicholas Harary and wife Melissa, who sharpened their restaurant skills at Manhattan eateries such as Jean Georges and Tabla, grace New Jersey with a very fine dining experience: a blend of sophisticated surroundings, professional service, and remarkable food. Dishes arrive in dramatic fashion, under silver domes removed in tandem with a flourish and a reminder of the innovative components: "Madam, your blue point crab with avocado, Clementine sorbet and cardamom crisp." "Sir, your seared day boat scallops with green apple-black truffle vinaigrette." The menu is extensive but each offering carefully devised. Consider: Elysian Fields rack and leg of lamb accompanied by roasted eggplant and goat cheese ravioli, or seared Long Island duck breast alongside a neat serving of crispy polenta and port plum purée. Menus are prix-fixe; choose a three-course menu, the four-course garden (vegetarian) menu, or the six-course chef's tasting menu. Small plates are available on the "bar menu" with dishes such as arugula tortellini with roasted red pepper and balsamic cipollini or braised "pulled" suckling pig with poached quince and cinnamon jus---Harary's glorified take on an American favorite. Desserts---whether a light-as-air lime soufflé with toasted coconut ice cream or a warm cake oozing rich Valrhona chocolate---are first-rate. From personalized, spot-on wine recommendations to the elegant farewell gift bag containing freshly baked banana bread, dining at Restaurant Nicholas is an unforgettable special occasion.
