Jean is the even-tinier-than-Stateline town between the California border hotels and Las Vegas, and unpretentious is its motto. This is the best place for a road break if you decide stopping en route is in order. If you find yourself stuck in traffic on the way out of Vegas on a Sunday, Gold Strike's brunch special includes the buffet and a menu entrée---not a bad way to wait out the traffic. While there's no atmosphere and only rudimentary service, the beef is reliably tender. Among signature appetizers are the oysters Rockefeller and shrimp scampi. Save room for a decadent dessert.
