The folks at this centrally located barbecue shack will sometimes boast of seating for thousands, thanks to its address right next to the expansive Centennial Park. Joking aside, the place has no seating beyond a couple of benches inside a screened-in porch. Walk up to the order window, get your 'cue, and amble over to the aforementioned park to enjoy your home-style meat and sides. Pulled pork is the specialty, but the sauce is more Memphis-style: sweet, smoky and slightly thick. But if you prefer nontraditional, ask for the mayonnaise-based signature white sauce with the peppery kick. House-made cobblers are satisfying and so are the traditional Southern sides: slaw, turnip greens, black-eyed peas, barbecue beans.
