Capitol Grille Description:
It may be in a basement, but this fine Nashville establishment ranks near the top of the city's restaurant corps. Some might confuse Capitol Grille with the steakhouse chain that spells its name Capital, but this venue is not affiliated with the chain. Attached to the restaurant is the clubby Oak Bar, one of the most refined spots in Nashville and an after-work haunt of legislators, lobbyists and downtown power brokers. At breakfast, indulgence rules, with Southern touches to some of the dishes, including grits, biscuits and Southern sausage cream gravy. For lunch, there are entrée salads, sandwiches and reasonably priced pasta dishes, and at the bar bargains can be had on certain Capitol Grille offerings. The dinner menu changes with the seasons but you can count on seafood, game and vegetarian selections, and the staff gets extra points for their willingness to accommodate special requests for selective eaters. The kitchen's dedication to local ingredients and ethically produced meats is second to none, and it shows in the quality of the dishes. When we're in the mood to overindulge, we like to visit the Sunday brunch. The wine list is a fine collection that ably supports the cuisine.
