The Patterson House Description:
Liquor is king at this haute cocktail den modeled after Chicago's Violet Hour and named for a Tennessee governor who staunchly opposed Prohibition. The bartenders use boutique spirits, seasonal fruit and house-made cordials, bitters and syrups to create classic cocktails like the Presbyterian (bourbon, ginger syrup, lemon) and of-the-moment creations like the bacon Old-Fashioned (bacon-infused whiskey, maple syrup, coffee-pecan bitters). Depending on the drink you order (there are roughly 50 to choose from), you'll get one of eight kinds of filtered ice, which the bartenders will occasionally crack with a small wooden bat. The setting is clubby, dimly lit with bookcases lining the walls, and the bartenders are dressed like riverboat card dealers, right down to the vests. Sit at the bar if you can; that way you can get the play-by-play from the friendly bartenders as they practice their craft. Once it's time to eat, the bar food doesn't disappoint; you can choose from a bevy of such whimsical plates as fried veal sweetbreads with sweet-and-sour sauce, a mini meatloaf sandwich and an "Elvis" panino of peanut butter, banana and bacon.
