Miel Description:
Miel's focus is almost exclusively on France, but that doesn't mean a rigid, formal approach is always the case. Appetizers trace the classic canon of such familiar dishes as escargots and foie gras, yet the execution of these dishes is hardly ordinary. The foie gras comes seared with a salty crust that shines when taken with a bite of intensely sweet preserved cherry tomatoes and onions. Other dishes are more straightforward but no less exciting, such as the flat-iron steak, which is as tender as you'd ever want a cut of beef to be. A winter dish of risotto with country ham and greens is Southern through and through. Vegans and vegetarians will always find something on the menu to please, and servers are very attentive concerning food allergies. Desserts are well worth the time and calories, especially the deconstructed crème brûlée, with a hard sugar coating coming in a riot of sweet shards placed around a hummock of custard. The wine list is affordable rather than ambitious and offers plenty of pleasing selections with a heavy emphasis on Napa and most of France.
