The Deux Gamins at New Years
After reading the voir, my husband and I settled on a French bistro called Les Deux Gamins. We arrived to a cheerfully bustling restaurant. The décor is warm and inviting and we were seated near the fireplace, the staff was in a festive mood as were the other groups in the restaurant. The place was full and we were glad we had reserved. Not long after we settled in we noticed that there would be live music a young lady started on the piano, followed by a gentlemen who played the accordion. The music went on all through the evening with both musicians alternating, (they also played the violin and guitar).
The meal itself was a 3 course meal, but they kept bringing us different bites of delicious food (we found out later these are called Amuse Bouch). The first was a tuna tartar, the second was gravlax, followed by a what they call a tartiflette. This was one of my favorites, it is layered potatoes with a strong cheese and bacon that is baked. Then we took one of each appetizers I had the Foie Gras and my husband had the lobster/crab presse. This was followed by the Vennison for me and the Duo (Fish and Calamari), for my husband. He is a big calamari fan and this one did not let him down, tender to perfection were his words. During the course of the evening we enjoyed the company of other clients in our vicinity the rooms are small and the strolling musicians would take requests and entertain us with festive French music.
As midnight approached we were given a handful of real flower petals and told that the countdown to 2008 was arriving, we were also served a glass of champagne…once we hit the mark it was great to see the flowers fly, it seemed that everyone in the place kissed everyone else, we toasted and were pleased with our choice of venues for new year. I must compliment this newly opened bistro, big parties are often disappointing, but they did a great job and lived up to their end of the bargain….all this plus desert was a very inexpensive 65$ per person….
