Ferreira Cafe Description:
The hallmark of Ferreira Café is attention to detail and its culinary combinations. So simple a soup as shell and fin fish is spiked with a dose of star anise; olive oil and fleur del sel season raw fish slivers and vegetables. The décor is simple and very Portuguese with walls painted a bright yellow and hung with traditional blue and white ceramic tiles. Start simple with a light, playful dish of baby greens in lemon and oil dressing, then expand what will be a culinary symphony with a popcorn quail in sweet-and-sour pineapple chutney. Next course, order a pleasantly surprising oven-roasted black cod sprinkled with porcini powder, simple mashed potatoes and port reduction. The wine list offers a broad selection from Portugal's major growing regions.

My husband and I had a lovely (if somewhat pricey) dinner at Ferreira Cafe Trattoria in January 09. We were able to get a table right away in the otherwise very popular restaurant without reservations, as we went very early; the service and food were excellent.
We both had fish that was well prepared and professionally served. The service was excellent and a good complement to the fine food. The wine list was decent, but expensive, and along with a whole bottle of Reisling, we enjoyed three glasses of port at the end of dinner.
I had taken the train up from New York to catch up with my husband who was staying at the Omni Hotel on Sherbrooke for business. We decided on this restaurant as our first choice the first night I was there... a good choice!

This place has been around for a while and I've been coming here for quite some time as well, and it never fails to impress me. I especially enjoy treating my Portuguese friends to some taste of home when they come into town, and they love it too so you know it has some realy authenticity to it. The chef prepares some real, typical Portuguese dishes and he tends to change things up quite often. So whether you've got some Portuguese friends coming into town or not, get your butt down to Ferreira for some food that won't disappoint!
