Yoma Myanmar-Thai Restaurant Description:
One of the very few Burmese---or should we say Myanmarese---eateries in Los Angeles County (the best known being Golden Triangle in Whittier), this is a pleasant, contemporary-looking place in the heart of predominantly-Chinese Monterey Park. The kitchen turns out authentic Burmese dishes such as deep-fried slices of opo (a kind of squash) with sweet-and-sour sauce, unique salads such as lap pat dok (a pungent tea leaf salad with peanuts, garlic and sesame), goat or beef curries that seem to be influenced more by Indian cuisine than Thai, and much more. There's a complete, separate menu of Thai dishes offered here, but with such a dearth of Burmese restaurants, one should come here for the exotic cuisine of Myanmar.
