Macau Street Description:
Opened in 2006, featuring the cuisine of Macau -- basically, Cantonese with some Portuguese influences.
Macau Street touches on dishes from the formerly Portuguese territory of Macao, making a specialty of pastries like the ethereally light egg tarts served at the end of the meal. Bamboo curtains and photos of distinctive Macao architecture decorate the otherwise modest restaurant, where the service is pleasantly helpful. Virtually every table orders several House Special fried crabs showered in drifts of minced garlic. Exotic choices of frog with tea leaves, chicken knees or snails (actually baby conch) sautéed with basil share the menu with more sedate choices like noodles with eggplant or stir-fried clams and leeks. There's even hotpot with alligator and healthy tonic soups. For dessert, less adventurous diners might stick with the flaky egg tarts, while the more intrepid can try pork fat cookies or frog ovary dessert soup. A large party can sample a wide selection of Southern Chinese dishes for very little money at this convivial storefront.
