Garozzo's Ristorante Description:
Known as much for its large portions as its cloister of rooms and Frank Sinatra soundtrack, this site remains an institution, even as Michael Garozzo has opened more of his namesake restaurants. Massive platters of pasta are dressed with house-made sauce and served with baseball-size meatballs. Morsels of chicken breast are rolled up tight, coated in breadcrumbs, grilled and drizzled with garlicky spiedini sauce. Appetizers primarily consist of Italian standards: mozzarella fritti, stuffed artichokes, veal-portobello ravioli in a Marsala sauce and Sicilian garlic dip. The menu also includes feather-light potato gnocchi dressed with Asiago, Parmesan and provolone cheeses sugo as well as tilapia alla fresca. The best desserts are the authentic ones, especially a fine tiramisu and the cannoli filled with whipped, slivered almond-dotted mascarpone. The wine list, understandably, is heavy on Italian vinos, including a velvety, elegant I Pini from Cortona, the village written about by Frances Mayes. Garozzo also has his own wine, the Garozzo Cellars Chianti Classico, an earthy Tuscan with soft tannins.
