Blue Bird Bistro Description:
Once a restaurant has established itself over the long haul, there's a reputation to maintain. Owner Jane Zieha has kept her sites on doing just that at her neighborhood bistro. Providing high quality, organic food gleaned from a slew of loyal, sustainable farms, Zieha, partnering with chef Lisa Yamanaka, continues the tradition. Regulars and newbies come for the enduring Blue Bird salad before experiencing the creative twists that fill the remainder of the menu. Dip into the seductive house-made green curry, and breathe in the aromatic lavender rice. Or, score satisfying polenta topped with roasted red bell pepper purée, a nutty-laced pesto and olive tapenade, Back when the bistro tended its own garden across the street, the place gained fame as one of the early all-vegetarian roosts. Zieha has since added in a mix of meat dishes. Graze on bison---in a burger or roast. Expect the pork chops to be double-cut and smoked. But vegans and vegetarians aren't left in the cold; there's a hunky black bean burger, organic risotto and house-made chive pasta to contend with.
