Frank Gabriele grew up at Giovanni's, his father's restaurant on the Hill, becoming a fine chef and a smooth host. Now he has his own place---a simple, handsome room, built to order, and a bouncy bar helping set off the flashy garb of the West County see-and-be-seen visitors. Besides them, the only elaborate sights are a divider wall that runs a soundless tape of scenes from Italy---and the food. Gabriele, whose sure hand with pasta and risotto was instilled by his parents, has excellent instincts and knows exactly how to reach just the right point on the high road between spaghetti and meatballs and beyond-silly modern interpretations. Mostly, the kitchen delivers what it promises, including superior beef and some topnotch scampi. Osso buco is also very good. Solid wine list, heavy on Italians. The waitstaff includes a couple of capable old hands from the local restaurant scene.
