The Sicilian cuisine and sleek décor are notable enough, but the secret ingredient in Paul Manno's success is the family that runs it. There's always a Manno or two at hand---dad at the door, son and-or mom in the kitchen---to watch over the crowd of satisfied folks knocking back the daily fish specials, mighty fine veal piccata or any of the many reasonably priced pasta possibilities. Dine in the Italian style, with pasta as a first course. The generous portions all but guarantee you'll have enough to box up for another meal. The room, decorated with Rat Pack and sports memorabilia, is dark enough to make you forget the strip mall outside the door. There's a very urban aura, intensified by the occasional appearance of professional athletes, many of whom are regulars. Paul Manno's is the sort of place that makes us wonder why Italian restaurant chains bother to open in St. Louis.
