Add a proven restaurateur: Brenda Langton, the owner of Café Brenda, the maverick Warehouse District destination for vegetarians and health-conscious foodies for nearly a quarter-century. Throw in a sleek, contemporary design, a meat-loving mentality and a bar that knows how to shake a cocktail that Carrie Bradshaw would love and you've got Spoonriver. Chef Lisa Carlson's menu deftly turns from slow-roasted Minnesota-raised pork tenderloin with a sprightly edamame succotash and a sizzling lamb burger to lovely herb- and chèvre-stuffed ravioli, wild mushroom-pistachio terrine with a stone fruit chutney and a hearty sandwich stuffed with heirloom tomatoes, microgreens and a thick swipe of sunflower pesto. Weekend brunch (favorites include warm buckwheat crêpes filled with smoked salmon and omelets bursting with wild rice and mushrooms) is especially popular on warm-weather Saturdays when the nearby Mill City Farmers Market is in session.
