Peter's Grill Description:
The Peter's Grills of the world are fading fast. It's too bad, because before there were food courts, there were downtown lunch counters like this one, which has been feeding bankers, lawyers, shop clerks and secretaries since 1914. It's short-order cooking at its best, with blue-plate favorites that include freshly roasted turkey and whipped potatoes smothered in gravy, meat loaf or baked chicken with dumplings and a big, yeasty roll. Take a seat at one of the long, curving counters for a steaming bowl of vegetable soup and a triple-stacked club sandwich, or Minnesota-style (translation: in our opinion super-bland) celery chow mein. The green apple pies are the stuff of legend. The no-nonsense servers deliver food in a flash.
