112 Eatery Description:
Fresh food served til closing, including homemade pasta, a bacon and egg sandwich, steak, short-rib chili, French fries and sautéed escarole. Located on the ground floor of the historic Amsterdam Building and run by La Belle Vie and Café Lurçat alums Nancy St. Pierre and husband, Isaac Becker, respectively. Entrees range from $7-28.
Chef-owner Isaac Becker (ex of D'Amico Cucina and Café Lurcat) and his wife, Nancy St. Pierre, are a pair of passionate food lovers who know what they're doing---and do it well. The space is cozy and candlelit, with exposed brick walls, a stamped tin ceiling and dark wood booths, lending the aura of a been-there-forever neighborhood bistro. And truly, we want to stay there---if not forever, at least most of the night, sipping wine and partaking of fare that doesn't have to bust your monthly budget. Inexpensive items like a bacon and egg sandwich with its lash of hot harissa, or fresh crab salad served with homemade pickles, are just a few examples of the treats. Becker's appetizer lamb chops are worthy of a cult following. Bigger ticket fare is also recommended---be it a properly roasted grouper or nori-encrusted sirloin. Happy, efficient servers seem proud to be here. Becker and St. Pierre (she runs the front of the house with flair) have also wisely cultivated the city's hottest late-night scene, cooking to 1 a.m. daily, a Twin Cities rarity.
