Cafe Twenty-Eight Description:
Family-owned bistro in Linden Hills with a commitment to local and organic ingredients.
Dinner prices range from $9-18, lunch from $9-12. Sunday brunch offerings are about $10 each and served 10am-2pm.
Located in the restored Linden Hills firehouse, the cozy room is sunlit during the day and filled with moms and kids. (There's a decent children's menu, plus Wild Rumpus children's bookstore and Creative Kidstuff toy store are nearby.) At night, it's candlelit and couple-filled. A politically correct menu highlights local produce, promotes sustainable agriculture and is vegetarian-friendly, with dishes like the house-made butternut ravioli and Gruyère-and-onion quiche. Personally, we like coming here for the organic burgers served three ways---try the roasted beets and goat cheese variation for something unusual. You also should plan to save room for dessert: oven-warm chocolate cake is homespun and served with a scoop of local Sebastian Joe's ice cream alongside.
