Smith & Wollensky Description:
This branch of the respected restaurant in Manhattan has a good location going for it: a colossal old house on the southernmost tip of South Beach. Be sure to reserve a window table, or one in the outdoor café, for the best view of cruise ships steaming by on adjacent Government Cut. Diehard carnivores and wine connoisseurs unite as America's reclaimed meal of choice, steak, continues as a time-honored standard here. Dry-aged porterhouse and tenderloin rule, but the sizzling pork loin is a standout. The $75 seafood platter includes tender shrimp and a feast of the day's raw-bar selections. Wine aficionados rejoice over the generous and premium inventory of international wines. And even novices will appreciate S&W's occasional dinners (about one per month) presented in conjunction with selected wineries, that offer five courses with paired wines.

Ending the Key West vacation in South Beach, I was looking forward to a good, tried and true steak. Though the location is good, the service was not up to my experience at their New York location nor and of the other top steak houses I have eaten in. We were seated quickly but had to wait 15 minutes for a menu and drink order. Wanting just steak, we ordered exacly that, just steak. The waiter seemed disappointed that we did not want any sides, and the service seemd to slow evenmore.
I had wanted to split their porterhouse for two with my guest, the children both had the Filet. Porterhouse was out so we went for the NY on the bone Sirloin.
After ordering we waited and waited. Drinks arrived and we waitied some more. The restauruant was not full and waiters seemed to be standing around. I felt like my experience in London at an Indian restauruant when the computer system broke. Everyone was just standing around.
After asking for bread, the drinks done, we reorded a second round of drinks.
Filet was good but was missing that char broiled taste. The On the Bone Sirloins were very disappointing. Tough, tough and tough. They were cooked to perfection (medium rare) but you really needed the steak knife. As this was an "When Available" choice on their menu, and not listed under their USDA Prime Steak menu area, I asked the waiter if they were Prime Beef Steaks. He went to the manager who assured me that their meat was all USDA Prime, and "If I did not believe it" he would take me to the meat locker and show me personally.
I do not think that I will return to this restaurant. A disappointment, since I have enjoyed the NY restaurant tremendously.

It was my husband's birthday and I took him to this prestigious and well known restaurant also being part of Miami Spice. We were treated as if we were begging for food. They sat us probably at the worst table ever, against the wall, brought the bread after the soup, I ordered the filet mignon medium well and it was well done (almost burned) I wouldn't have eaten it if it wasn't for the Bernaisse Sauce or the house steak sauce. The waiters were too stuck ups as if they didn't want to serve us, the waiters are probably used to serve high profile people, celebrities or Europeans. Food outrageously over priced and not worth it, I would never pay the regular menu price. Thank God for Miami Spice . I would not recommend this restaurant to anyone, I will never go back. I'm very dissappointed at this restaurant, the service sucks and the food is nothing out of this world.
