Puerto Sagua Description:
On the walls of this informal eatery, the eccentric Scull sisters' whimsical 3-D paintings of Old Havana provide a festive backdrop for satisfying Cuban comfort food. In chichi, overpriced South Beach it seems near-unbelievable that one could find affordable, authentic ropa vieja (shredded beef), arroz con pollo (chicken with rice), croquetas or pernil asado (slow-roasted pork), but all the traditional favorites are here and well-prepared, including Cuban seafood preparations (like a minuta de pescado, breaded yellowtail). Those seeking snacks will find an authentic hot Cuban sandwich (roast pork, ham, Swiss and pickles, pressed on Cuban bread) or medianoche (the same on a sweeter, smaller soft roll). And definitely order a side of yuca---fried or boiled con mojo (tangy garlic sauce).
