Perricone's Marketplace & Café Description:
This huge gourmet market and eatery is strategically perched beneath an oak grove in the center of Downtown Miami's destination-point lunch neighborhood. Dashing proprietor Stephen Perricone looks more like a Miami attorney or stockbroker than a restaurateur. But he's a seasoned pro, whose successes stretch all the way back to a stint in South Beach and a successful career in New York, and his Northeastern flair is fleshed out at Perricone's. Sleek Brickell Avenue professionals and yuppies from around the corner are the faithful regulars. Imported meats and cheeses and a wealth of pastries draw takeout lunch crowds. Perricone imported the wood to build his marketplace from a dissembled barn in Vermont. Although the building is relatively young, it looks and feels as though it's been here for a hundred years. Screens instead of windows, like an enormous treehouse, enclose the dining room. Brooklyn-style Italian American food defines the menu, with antipasti, simple caprese, Caesar salads and saucy pastas leading the pack. Cannoli and sfogliatella for dessert or as simple espresso accompaniments are perfect.
