Byblos Description:
Even with all of its local flavor, New Orleans has a taste for authentically prepared Middle Eastern fare. Attached to a shopping mall just outside the city limits, the high-ceilinged, whitewashed dining room at Byblos is several degrees more comfortable and well-appointed than the run-of-the-mill Middle Eastern café. At the cloth-covered tables, regulars converse over aromatic rice; meaty and beautifully seasoned cabbage rolls; a parsley-rich tabbouleh; skewers piercing exotically seasoned beef, shrimp, fish, lamb and chicken; and such custardy, honey-laced traditional desserts as ashta and baklava. Unlike most of its competitors, Byblos sports a full bar and wine list.
