Erling Jensen Restaurant Description:
The Danish-born, classically trained chef Erling Jensen relies on fresh, seasonal ingredients to create the decadent dishes offered in his east Memphis restaurant. Located in an elegantly converted 1950s house, the white tablecloth establishment draws a largely corporate crowd decked out in dark suits and ties. Jensen does not spare the lump crab meat, lobster, foie gras and other luxuries in his cooking. In fact, luxury is everywhere. How else would you describe rack of lamb crusted with pecan, mustard, garlic and blackstrap molasses or buffalo with lobster béarnaise? Seafood gets equal treatment here, with such dishes as roasted monkfish with a lobster "bolognese," pan-seared diver scallops with lobster risotto, and seared ahi with a white bean cassoulet. But save room for Jensen's desserts, such as the chocolate soufflé with milk chocolate Maker's Mark crème anglaise. Erling Jensen has, perhaps, the best wine list in town. Service is informed and gracious, but not always flawless.
