Pain d'Avignon Description:
What began in 1992 as a commercial bakery practicing old-world techniques quickly grew into one of the Cape's favorites. Today Pain D'Avignon offers not only its traditional breads to the restaurant industry but also to consumers with a small café attached to the commercial bread bakery. In addition to brioche, cranberry pecan rolls, baguettes and chocolate hazelnut loaves, café visitors can order from a menu of pressed sandwiches, composed salads, thin-crust pizzas with gourmet toppings like prosciutto and picholine olives, and desserts. There is even a traditional lobster roll on brioche. The café also sell picnic items. We like the selection of French cheeses, which is among the finest on the Cape and makes a very nice accompaniment to the breads fresh from the oven.
