At Buca di Beppo, you'll feel like Mama's doing the cooking, and the party is at your house. The portions are huge, overflowing right onto the table---this is food for sharing, even the smaller menu for couples is meant for more than two. It's all generous, boisterous and crowd appealing. Frank Sinatra plays over the sound system, black-and-white photos of JFK adorn the walls and the tables are all covered with red-and-white checked tablecloths. Our choice is the chicken Marsala with its wine-sweetened mushrooms and tender chicken along with the garlic mashed potatoes. Or sample the lasagna---a nine-layer extravaganza loaded with homemade meat sauce and cheeses. Plate-sized rounds of garlic bread are always crispy on the outside and good and garlicky soft in the center. The red sauce is a little sweet for our liking, and the meatball (as big as a softball) always sounds better on the menu than it tastes. But everybody knows that dining at Buca is really about the experience, not the cuisine. Other locations.
