The Salt Exchange Description:
We're bored with big entrées that stay with us far too long. We want to try new things, repeatedly, in one sitting and the small plate ethic that now abounds allows us to do that. So it is at The Salt Exchange, an Old Port spot with a hip, artsy vibe and whimsical cuisine that feeds into our short attention spans. There's an "amuse" list with seasonal arancini, crisp spheres of creamy rice, melting with sweet squash on an earthy mushroom ragoût, or spicy pork sausage with clams and tomato compote, just a bite or two to start. Go on to the cold plates section with venison carpaccio or a salad of yellow and candy stripe beets with sous vide egg yolk and a hit of tang from blood orange. Get full or half-portion entrées from the hot plates list, such as quail stuffed with chicken and truffle mousse with a disc of roasted turnip and more vegetable delights. A duo of beef with shredded beef cheek and grilled rib-eye with stuffed leek and celeriac with truffle jus are equally tempting. Be sure to try the flourless chocolate cake with dark chocolate mousse and a shooter of hot chocolate with fresh marshmallow. Don't forget to look around---the walls are an art gallery showcasing local and exotic talent and even the bar and lounge has a flair that allures.
