"Greek Rustic Fare" is Emilitsa's self-descriptive tagline but the cuisine here is more refined than your Greek grandmother might have made. Still, it reflects the comfort food of the Mediterranean in the less is more ethos---less ingredients more creatively composed. Moussaka is on the menu, yes, as are the buttery, flaky spanakopita, dishes familiar to most. What is not familiar is the lighter touch in simple, elegant dishes such as a plate of gigantes sto fournou---huge white beans baked with tomato-dill sauce and parsley, a refreshing and tangy start to the meal. Chicken livers tossed with oregano and a vinegar beurre blanc is hearty and delicate at the same time and good to share. Lamb is a must here. Try loin chops simply grilled and infused with garlic and olive oil, served with a warm ripe tomato stuffed with feta and fluffy roasted lemon potatoes. A whole daurade, the mild white fish from Greece, is charcoal-grilled---flaky and earthy. Desserts include traditional baklava and sweet-and-sour creations made with yogurt, such as panna cotta with mountain honey and mango. The wine list is all Greek as well, and staff can easily recommend a glass or bottle for the uninitiated.
