Porcini Description:
When the craving strikes for veal scaloppine, garlic-scented seafood pasta or an aromatic, very Italian pizza, Porcini will satisfy. Not surprisingly, the eponymous mushrooms figure in many dishes, too. The main dining room, which could have been lifted straight out of "The Garden of the Finzi-Continis," has a fountain at the entrance and is lined with exposed brick and banquettes covered in a faux-needlework fruit pattern. Hard surfaces make it a bit loud, but certainly lively when the restaurant fills up. Outside, on the wrought iron-enclosed patio, is a mural of hilly central Italian countryside. So when weather cooperates, savoring the bistecca with Gorgonzola butter and a Brunello will almost convince you that you're on the lawn of a Tuscan villa. Jumbo shrimp star in a dish of vegetable risotto with lemon-garlic sauce, and grilled salmon dressed in orange-honey glaze on a bed of white Tuscan beans is topnotch. Other highly recommended dishes include the grilled veal or pork chops or the beef tenderloin with Madeira and portobello sauce. When winter forces diners indoors, there's solace in the osso buco. Desserts made in-house vary nightly, so pace yourself accordingly. The setting is so enjoyable that you'll want to linger over one of the fine bottles of Italian wine, anyway.
