Lilly's Description:
Very much in the tradition of Alice Waters, chef-proprietor Kathy Cary takes the best produce and meats from local farmers and changes her menus with the seasons. She also adds a soupçon of French culinary technique and a dash of Southern grace. The result: elegant and charming dishes. The rosemary-accented chicken potpie or her beef tenderloin sandwich with Kentucky Tavern bourbon sauce---A-1 with attitude---are the kinds of flavors you'll find at lunch. Light dining bites come from a list of "Kentucky tapas" that might include fried frogs' legs with red pepper aïoli, Kentucky lake catfish spring rolls or rabbit croquettes. Main dishes always feature a seasonal variation on lamb shank, veal scaloppine paired with a chef's pasta and the God Bless Our Local Farmers Plate brimming with a vegetarian bounty. A notable wine list complements the food, and a fine collection of premium bourbons is on hand, too. Several times a year, Cary's love of Europe and its cuisine gets passed along to her patrons when, for a week at a time, the cooking of a particular region of France, Italy or Spain will be featured, appropriate wines or ciders included. All this is served up in stylish surroundings dominated by purples and greens, and enlivened with mirrors and murals.
