610 Magnolia Description:
The six-course prix-fixe (choose vegetarian or omnivore versions) menu changes each week, so if your budget runs to it, return often for the culinary world tour offered by chef-proprietor Edward Lee. There will be a trio of cold appetizers (perhaps a series of cold fruit or vegetable soups) presented on a small porcelain tray, followed by a trio of hot bites (often using duck, foie gras or morels). Lee uses seasonal ingredients, and main dishes often feature seafood, lamb, beef or bison. Pistachio-crusted Colorado lamb chops with white bean cassoulet and skate with Maine lobster farci are good examples. Desserts are equally creative. The house specialty is the meringue-and-buttercream mocha dacquoise. Diners have the option of choosing a cheese course in place of a sweeter meal ender. All this is served within the modest frame facade of a house on the edge of Louisville's Central Park. (It could be a private club or gustatory speak-easy.) The intimate dining room has an elegant, Asian simplicity and is painted in tones of black, gray and white accented with colorful contemporary art and fresh floral arrangements. A prime table is situated on a loft-like balcony overlooking the room. In warm weather, a brick-walled garden is a green sanctuary in the middle of this urban neighborhood. Service is professional, but never stuffy. And you will not be rushed. Whatever time you reserve your table, it is yours until closing.
