Nine Roses Description:
Colorful pictures, screens and fabrics adorn the walls of the two large dining rooms in this sizeable family-style restaurant that's also known as Hoa Hong 9. Cheerful service from staffers whose smiles never disappear is a hallmark of the dining experience. The regulars go for the well-seasoned chargrilled pork chops, the Vietnamese crêpe (called a happy pancake on some other menus) filled with moist shrimp and sprouts, the bracingly good shrimp-wrapped sugar cane, freshwater prawns, pungent seafood salad and spring rolls with shrimp and pork. Whole fish, infused with the flavors of aromatic vegetables, are either steamed or fried. The vast menu also includes some Chinese dishes for the less adventurous crowd. The young owners, Anna and Jeff Nguyen, usually are present to troubleshoot.
